Security and data protection
Your members’ data and money, protected
ID numbers, phone numbers, family details and finances are sensitive. Jalika is built to protect them and to follow the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.
Separate data per association
Each association's records are kept apart. Officials see only their own association.
Role-based access
Chair, treasurer, secretary, auditor and member each see only what their role needs.
Two-step login
Officials confirm sign-in with a one-time code sent to their phone.
Complete audit trail
Every change records who made it and when. Financial records are reversed, never deleted.
Maker-checker approvals
No single official can both approve and pay out a benefit.
Encrypted and backed up
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and backed up daily.
The Data Protection Act and your welfare
Under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019, your association is the data controller for its members' information, and Jalika acts as your data processor. In practice that means:
- Members are told what data is collected and why, and can ask to see or correct it.
- Only the data the welfare needs is collected.
- Access is limited to officials who need it, and every access to records is logged.
- Your data is never sold or used for anything other than running your welfare.
- If you leave Jalika, you can export all your data.
Depending on its size and activities, your association may need to register with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC). We can point you to the guidance during onboarding.
